Tips and Tricks for Hair Growth
I have been on quite the hair growth journey. A few years ago, I had a cute little bob and in 2020 I decided that I wanted to grow it out.
I’ll list some of the things I did to grow my hair out below but let’s talk about why it took so long. I decided to dye my hair darker when I first decided to grow it out again, after being really blonde for a few years. Then, a few months later I decided I did not like the brown hair anymore and wanted to go blonde again. So, I did. Almost 7 more times. My hair was growing but just not as quickly as I thought it would be.
In May, before my wedding, I ended up dying it a little blonder again and I think that really dried out my hair. I realized I did not want my hair to be that blonde for my wedding, so I dyed it and toned down all the blonde.
For the record, I was never fully blonde. I never touched my roots. I just had a lot of hi and low lights.
Fast forward to this past December, I just decided to start glazing/toning my hair darker. It has made such a difference in my hair and just in these few months, my hair has grown a lot.
Now let’s get into my tips and tricks for hair growth:
Vitamins:
I have tried pretty much every hair vitamin there is. What I found to help me most is beef liver and fish cod oil. These two vitamins have been saving my hair. I recently gave in and finally started Nutrafol… will report back on that.
Protein:
Protein has helped my hair so much. I have been trying to eat more protein throughout the day with every meal. Your hair is pretty much made from protein so eating enough of it will ensure healthy, strong and shiny growth.
Hair Oiling:
I can write a whole separate post about this one. I have been hair oiling for years and I swear it has helped so much. I have tried a few different oils throughout the years. Castor oil, olive oil, and of course rosemary oil. The one that has helped me the most is the rosemary oil. Its absolutely amazing. Sometimes, I will mix in the castor oil too. First, I take a bamboo brush and start brushing my hair to really start stimulating the scalp. Then, I take my oils and distribute throughout my hair. I will then take a scalp massager and will massage all the oils into my scalp to ensure blood circulation. (Never forget to oil your ends, no one wants split ends)
Then, I will take a silk scrunchie and wrap my hair in a bun and take plastic wrap and wrap it around my head to really lock everything in. (Yes, my husband really loves this part).
After about 2 hours I will take a shower and wash my hair using a detox shampoo. Then I do my regular hair routine after the detox.
I try and do this about once a week. Sometimes, if it’s a busy day I won’t put the plastic wrap around my hair and I will just rock my oiled hair for the day.
*Tip: at the end of your shower rinse your hair with freezing cold water*
Dyson Hair Dryer:
There is absolutely nothing like a Dyson. I don’t think I even knew how to blow dry my hair before a Dyson. It is definitely a tool worth investing in because it prevents damage to your hair. It comes with different attachments for whatever style blowout you’re looking for and it dries your hair SO fast. It takes me about ten minutes to dry my whole head!
Silk Pillowcases and Microfiber Towels:
This is super important. Silk pillowcases and scrunchies are super important in protecting your hair cuticles. It causes less friction than other fabrics that are more likely to pull and damage hair. Silk scrunchies lessens hair loss and prevents hair frizz and damage. Silk scrunchies will not cause friction and breakage like your traditional scrunchie.
Hairbrushes:
Who doesn’t love a good hairbrush? Mason Pearson brushes are obviously incomparable but if you’re looking some other options, these are some of my favs. The key is to look for a hairbrush that stimulates the scalp and helps to restore the heathy oils in your scalp.
